Statement of Intent
Aims
At Hurworth House School we aim to provide a well-ordered, efficiently managed, supportive school environment in which each pupil is enabled to:
- fulfil their intellectual, physical and creative potential
- take responsibility for their own learning
- develop spiritually, morally and culturally
- develop interpersonal skills, flexibility and adaptability
- show an understanding of and respect and concern for others both within the school community and in a wider context.
As a School we will support our pupils’ educational development by:
- providing a challenging and relevant education that takes into account what they have learned at the earlier stages of their school life
- having clear, attainable but challenging goals and targets for them to achieve
- giving them positive feedback on their work and progress
- providing a broad and challenging curriculum delivered
- providing an enriching programme of extra-curricular activities and visits
- creating a stimulating learning environment
- providing a varied and up to date range of learning resources
To these ends the School will:
- recruit well-qualified, enthusiastic staff, support the professional development of these staff with in-service training and maintain a supportive environment for them
- ensure that its buildings and other physical resources are maintained and developed to the highest standards within the constraints of budget
- ensure that it meets the requirements of any relevant educational legislation
- assess each pupil honestly and impartially to identify their strengths and weaknesses
- communicate these to all students and their parents, as appropriate, in an easily understood and consistent manner
- ensure that the improvement of weakness is provided and strengths developed to the full
The Governors and Management of the School will ensure that the community is well-disciplined by:
- having such rules as are necessary and making sure that these are widely known and fairly enforced
- encouraging staff and pupils alike the mutual respect and concern for others that will build a happy, constructive and supportive community spirit
Each pupil should leave to embark on adult life:
- able to contribute fully to the society of which he will be a member, embracing both an awareness of self-worth and the needs of others
- with the knowledge and wisdom to facilitate the lifelong continuation of their learning and development
- having an understanding of himself and positive self-esteem
We hope each pupil will leave school having:
- generosity of spirit
- inner resources
- a moral standpoint
- tolerance and compassion
- an understanding of others and respect and concern for them including the world community and other races and religions
- a sense of justice
- a sense of humour and perspective
We will endeavour to ensure that these aims are communicated to and understood by pupils, staff and parents alike.
